Dragon Snare is an enemy in Phoenotopia: Awakening. It is a giant carnivorous plant found mainly within Sand Drift Ruins and in the overworld battles of Sand Drifts Region. One is seen alongside multiple Mutant Snares in Mul Caves as well.

Behavior[]

Dragon Snares normally lay dormant underground with only its flower lure visible above the surface. If anything that can be devoured comes too close to the lure, the Snare will emerge immediately. It can only take one thing into its mouth at a time, and reacts differently based on what is eaten.

  • Gail: It would chew on her and dissolve her hair dye
(or spit her out immediately if Stink Root is carried).
  • Enemy: It would swallow the enemy and heal itself for 10 HP.
  • Crates and Pots: It would spit the object directly upward.
  • Bombs: It would swallow the bomb and take 25 DMG.

If Dragon Snares are hit when its mouth is unoccupied, it would spit out a spiky ball in Gail's direction that deals both contact damage and explode when a few seconds pass. Dragon Snare would would also try to whip Gail into its mouth with its vines if she stands too close.

The recommended method to defeat Dragon Snares is to lure it out with Bombs, and then damage it while its mouth is occupied so no spike balls are spit out.

Mul Caves[]

In the atrium of Mul Caves where there are multiple Mutant Snares at the bottom, a lonely Dragon Snare can be seen on the right side near a downward-facing nest. Feeding this Dragon Snare with Iads would somehow rotate the nest, allowing players to blow it up with Bombs to access the hidden section below.

Trivia[]

  • One puzzles in the Forlorn Ruins involves letting a Dragon Snare devour and spit out an explosive crate directly upward to destroy Stone Blocks.
    • It is unclear why Bombs would detonate immediately when devoured, but explosive crates are spit out unscathed instead. It may be caused by timed nature of the Bombs.
  • Only ground-based enemies can be devoured, so a Jellyfly would simply fly pass the lure undetected
    • Blastiad is considered an enemy rather than explosives, so it would not explode when devoured
  • During Rala's obstacle race, about half of the race can be skipped by getting intentionally devoured and launched upward by a Dragon Snare when carrying a Stink Root.
  • When removing hair dye in Sharla's place, she mentions her proud recipe of using the spit of Dragon Snare as an all-natural ingredients. This can indeed be observed when Gail is swallowed by a Snare (without carrying Stink Root) where her hair would return to the original pink color afterwards.
