Castella Knights are highly trained and respected soldiers in Castella, who defend the populace, castle and the royal family. They serve as NPCs, and also serve as types of enemies in Phoenotopia: Awakening.

History[]

For the first two main areas of the game, Castella Knights dutifully do their jobs and serve their intended purpose. There are two that defend Panselo Village, some that defend the mayor and the rest of Atai Town, and some guarding the border between Castella and Rhodus. However, once Daea City is reached, hostile Castella Knights can be found. While the city guards are friendly towards Gail, the castle guards are not. They refuse entrance to the castle from anyone, wearing armor that obscures their faces, and speak in a strange, monotone way. After Gail, Thomas, and Bart spend the night at a hotel, Thomas is captured by them.

Gail eventually enters the castle, and frees a knight from a crate. She explains that her allies have been taken control of by some strange force, so she hid in the storage room. Afterwards, hostile Castella knights will begin to patrol the dungeons, attacking Gail on sight.

Once Gail frees two other captured soldiers and enters cell block A, she faces an onslaught of 10 Castella Knights, 5 of each variety. After they are defeated, a Kobold enters the room, showing that they were in alliance with otherworldly forces.

The knights controlled by the kobolds and the knights with free will then begin an intense battle in the White Towers. Meanwhile, Gail climbs the towers, eventually defeating Katash and freeing Prince Leo.

Afterwards, the controlled Castella Knights look for the Spheralis in Cosette and between the walls, with the intent to find the Phoenixes. Several of them accompany Ruby before being stopped at the Great Wall. After they are knocked out they are disoriented, but no longer under the kobold's control.

Crossbow Guard

There are two types of enemy Castella Knights: Spear Knights and Crossbow Knights. Spear Knights have large spears, which they can throw, use to charge, or use to simply whack their opponents. Crossbow Knights possess double crossbows that shoot two arrows at once, which spread out. They're also able to use melee attacks with their bows.

Trivia[]

  • In the original Phoenotopia, the guard horde that ambushes Gale is aided by Guard Dogs. In Phoenotopia: Awakening, the dogs are absent. This is because the dogs do not return in the remake and have been replaced by the Boars.
