Cooking is an action that Gale is able to perform in Phoenotopia Awakening, once she acquires the Frying Pan. She can cook many consumable items and, as a result, can enhance their usability (they can be consumed more quickly, restore more health, etc.) if it's done correctly. In order to cook, all Gale needs is suitable kindling to start a fire (which is typically found near a Save Shrine). There are three ways to start a fire: using Flintstones, using the Rocket Boots, or using a third secret method which entails a very powerful, unlockable fire attack that is currently unknown.
Once a campfire has been ignited, Gale can select a consumable item from her inventory and start cooking it. Upon choosing to cook the item, a minigame will begin. In this minigame, a bar with a moving cursor will appear at the top of the screen (the cursor's speed varies depending on the item). The cursor will display a certain button, and the player has to hit that button when the cursor is at the center of the bar. The player will have to do this anywhere from three to eight times, depending on the item (more difficult items will have longer sequences). There's also a limited time to complete the minigame, which can also vary based on what item you're cooking; failure will cause the item to be ruined and change into something undesirable. Undesirable items either have no effect or have a negative effect on Gale once consumed.
